Description
The Corcoran Gallery of Art, was founded in 1869 by the co-founder of Riggs Bank and was located at the present location of the Renwick Gallery. It was moved to its present Beaux Arts style building later as it outgrew its original location. After decades of financial woes, the privately supported institution, the Corcoran was dissolved in 2014 and control handed over to the National Gallery of Art and the George Washington University.
